Overview
Mihos, like so many stars before him, was purchased out of the prestigious Keeneland September Sale, having been selected by Paula Parsons and Dr. Carr. The handsome colt quickly established himself as a barn and partner favorite in Middleburg as he underwent his early training. His name is inspired through his parents – Mihos was an Egyptian lion-headed god of war and a son of Bast, the goddess of cats.
Sent to trainer Jimmy Jerkens, Mihos did little wrong from the moment he went to the racetrack. A third-place effort upon debut was followed by an impressive maiden victory at Aqueduct that earned him “Rising Star” status from the Thoroughbred Daily News. In his third career start, a game effort in the Mucho Macho Man stakes made him a stakes winner with significant Kentucky Derby buzz. Though he never quite reached those heights again, he brought his partners back to the winner’s circle on two more occasions – once at Gulfstream and once at Aqueduct.
Although Mihos ended his career with a pair of starts for other connections, he was never far out of mind. Centennial Farms keeps a close eye on our former runners, and when he was retired from racing, the decision was made to bring him back into the fold. He now resides with the Little family in Massachusetts, where his stablemates include Wicked Strong and Securitiz.
