Overview
Outstandingly bred and with looks to match, Preservationist added up to the best yearling prospect we had ever purchased. His sire, Arch, has produced champions on three continents, on dirt and turf, going long and short. His deep female family traces back to Remedia, daughter of the legendary Dr. Fager out of the wonderful European classic winning mare Monade. The family has produced generations of standout runners, including Queena, Chic Shirine, Serra Lake, Somali Lemonade, Verrazano, and Hungry Island.
Preservationist gave his partners the thrills they so richly deserved when their patience finally paid off in his six year old year. Coming in 2019 with only four lifetime starts (2-1-1), he rattled off two wins and a third before stepping up to his first stakes race, winning the G2 Suburban impressively by 4 ½ lengths at Belmont Park.
The big imposing horse gained valuable Grade 1 experience racing against some of the best older horses in the country when he finished a credible fourth in the historic and prestigious G1 Whitney Stakes on August 3 in Saratoga. A change in tactics and a gutsy ride by Junior Alvarado, Preservationist closed out the Saratoga meet with a thrilling victory winning his first Grade 1 in the Woodward Stakes.
Preservationist has officially retired and joined the stallion roster at Airdrie Stud for the 2020 season but leaves behind memories to last a lifetime with his partners.
