City of Light has gotten off to a fast start a stud, with five stakes horses already from his first crop – quite the beginning for a horse who improved with age. This colt is just the second foal from a multiple stakes winner. His two-year-old half-sister finished a strong third in her debut, which came in maiden special weight company at Gulfstream Park.

He settled in at the Middleburg Training Center where he underwent his early training and was made eligible for the lucrative Virginia Residency Program. Illuminare is trained by Todd Pletcher and currently stabled at Palm Beach Downs in Florida.

Illuminare wasted no time lighting up the tote board winning in his career debut over Belmont Stakes Festival Weekend  June 7 at Saratoga Race Course.

There’s no better way to kick off Opening weekend at the Spa than with a win.  Illuminare notched his second career win against N1X Allowance competition on July 13 drawing off to win by 4 3/4 lengths.

He stepped up to stakes company for his third start in the Harrods Creek Stakes at Churchill Downs finishing fourth.

He returned to the winner’s circle again in his fourth start winning at six furlongs with Irad Ortiz, Jr. on November 9 at Aqueduct Race Course. Illuminare posted his highest Beyer to date of 98.

Our handsome colt returns to stakes competition in the G3 Mr. Prospector Stakes to be run on Saturday, December 28 at Gulfstream Park.  The seven furlong race has a purse of $165,000.  Illuminare drew post position nine in a field of twelve; Luis Saez is named to ride.
