It is an incredible testament to our team of Dr. Carr and Paula Parsons that they found two colts who not only met our high physical and pedigree standards, but came within our preferred price range, well below that average. A son of the most prolific stallion by the phenomenal Into Mischief, here is a colt out of a stakes producing mare from a rich grade one producing family.
Top-class at two and three, Practical Joke captured the Hopeful Stakes (G1), Champagne Stakes (G1), and H. Allen Jerkens Stakes (G1). He is already the sire of 58 stakes winners, 32 graded, and 12 grade one, including Santa Anita Derby (G1) victor Practical Move; Domestic Product, who followed his sire to glory in the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes (G1); the Frizette Stakes (G1) heroine Chocolate Gelato; and Ways and Means, successful in the Test Stakes (G1). Through mid-August, Practical Joke is among the Top 10 sires in the nation, a feat he has accomplished every year since his first crop turned four.
This colt is half-brother to Phantom Ride, a five-time winner and black-type placed; to six-time winner Aura; and to Bird the Legend, a debut winner at Fair Grounds this year. His two-year-old full sister is in training at The Thoroughbred Training Center. Their dam, Spirit, is a daughter of Indian Charlie, the sire of Uncle Mo, and a terrific broodmare sire responsible for Horse of the Year Flightline and Eclipse Award Champion Sprinter Mitole.
Spirit is half-sister to the exceptional racemare and producer Dream Rush, winner of five black-type events, four graded, including the Test Stakes (G1) and Prioress Stakes (G1). Dream Rush is the dam of a trio of stakes winners, including multiple graded stakes winner Dream Pauline, and Dreaming of Julia, who captured the Frizette Stakes (G1). Dreaming of Julia is an accomplished producer in her own right – she’s the dam of the magnificent Malathaat, two-time Eclipse Award winner and eight-time graded stakes winner, whose six grade one wins included the Breeders’ Cup Distaff Stakes (G1) and Kentucky Oaks (G1), in addition to grade two winning and grade one placed Julia Shining.
Spirit and Dream Rush are also half-sisters to stakes placed Dream Sweeper, the granddam of the Starlet Stakes (G2) victress Consequent (by Into Mischief, the grandsire of this colt); to stakes placed Neeranjanie; to Eileen’s Dream, the granddam of Saratoga Special Stakes (G2) scorer Rhyme Schemes; and to A Dream, the dam of the 2026 Wood Memorial Stakes (G2) captor Albus (by a grandson of this colt’s broodmare sire, Indian Charlie), graded stakes winner Song of Spring, and granddam of stakes winner Soul Sacrifice.
This colt is bred on the TrueNicks A+ rated Practical Joke/Indian Charlie cross that has already produced stakes winners Captain Cook and Howl. When looked through a wider lens to include the broader Into Mischief/Indian Charlie lines, it is responsible for grade one winner Dayoutoftheoffice, graded stakes winners Consequent, Frank’s Rockette, Full Moon Madness, and the brilliant and speedy Skelly.
