2018 HAMPTON, LLC

The first Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale dates back 100 years, and countless notable horses have gone under the hammer since. Four of the last six Belmont Stakes winners have passed through the ring there and it ranks at the top among North American yearling auctions by percentage of Grade 1 winners, Graded Stakes Winners, and Stakes Winners. Among those are our own Colonial Affair, Corinthian, and Unified. As has been the tradition since our founding, Dr. Stephen Carr and Paula Parsons led the search for our next star, examining every colt in the sale in order to find those that meet our criteria.

MAGIC MOJO
UNCLE MO – MAGICAL STEPS, by GIANT’S CAUSEWAY

Magic Mojo, Uncle Mo - Magical Steps, by Giant's Causeway

Few stallions have made a more sensational start to their stud career than Uncle Mo, and Centennial’s newest colt by this stallion is not only bred on a proven cross, but is also from a fabulous foundation family.

A spectacular, undefeated Champion Two-Year-Old, Uncle Mo has made a simply remarkable opening to his stallion career. With his first three Northern Hemisphere crops he has already sired no less than 39 individual stakes winners, 19 of them graded. They include Champion Two-Year-Old, Nyquist, winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) and Kentucky Derby (G1); Hollywood Derby (G1) hero Mo Town; Wood Memorial Stakes (G1) victor Outwork; and Unbridled Mo, conqueror of Champion Unique Bella in the Apple Blossom Handicap (G1).

This colt’s dam, Magical Steps, is a stakes placed daughter of European Champion Giant’s Causeway, a three-time Leading Sire and broodmare sire of already more than 70 stakes winners. Magical Steps is a sister to listed stakes placed Magical Affair and half-sister to both listed stakes winner Mystic and stakes placed Cabbage Key.

The second dam, Mayville’s Magic, is a winning daughter of the outstanding sire, Gone West and is half-sister to European Champion Two-Year-Old Gay Gallanta, subsequently dam of classic placed group two winner and group one sire Byron.

Mayville’s Magic is out of Nureyev’s stakes winning daughter, Gallanta, who is also group one placed against colts. Gallanta is a half-sister to Champion and very successful sire, Gay Mecene, and of Lassie Dear. A graded stakes winner, Lassie Dear is one of the great foundation mares of her era. She is ancestress of more than 40 stakes winners, including Horse of the Year and outstanding sire, A.P. Indy; classic winning Champion and important sire, Lemon Drop Kid; Champion and classic sire Duke of Marmalade; classic winner and classic sire Summer Squall; Epsom Derby (G1) victor Ruler of the World; Champion and classic sire Wolfhound; five-time grade one winner and successful sire Court Vision and most recently the 2018 Metropolitan Handicap (G1) winner Bee Jersey. This has been a phenomenal international stallion family, which will give this colt tremendous sire appeal should he become a major stakes winner.

This colt is bred on the Uncle Mo/Storm Cat cross, one which has already produced Champion and Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Nyquist; graded stakes winners Auntie Joy and Ultra Joy; and stakes winners Thrilled (out of a mare by Giant’s Causeway), Clipthecouponannie (out of a mare by Freud, a brother to Giant’s Causeway), Mo Amour, and Jessica Krupnick.
