The first Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sale dates back 100 years, and countless notable horses have gone under the hammer since. Four of the last six Belmont Stakes winners have passed through the ring there and it ranks at the top among North American yearling auctions by percentage of Grade 1 winners, Graded Stakes Winners, and Stakes Winners. Among those are our own Colonial Affair, Corinthian, and Unified. As has been the tradition since our founding, Dr. Stephen Carr and Paula Parsons led the search for our next star, examining every colt in the sale in order to find those that meet our criteria.
ICEMEISTER
BODEMEISTER – RECOLLECT by EL PRADO
There are few more exciting young sires than Bodemeister. A thrilling front-running classic performer, Bodemeister has made a sensational start to his stud career. With his first crop only three-year-olds of 2017, he has already been represented by five stakes winners, including the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and Florida Derby (gr. I) hero, Always Dreaming, and multiple graded stakes winning sprint star, American Anthem.
Recollect, the dam of this Bodemeister colt, has already proven her black-type producing credentials. She is the dam of Elusive Collection who made six of her seven starts in stakes company, never finishing outside the first four, victorious in the Etobicoke Stakes, a second in the Seaway Stakes (gr. III) and a third in the Bessarabian Stakes (gr. II).
By Leading Sire El Prado, Recollect is a sister to the brilliant filly Winter Memories, successful in no less than seven graded stakes, among them the Diana Stakes (gr. I) and Garden City Stakes (gr. I). Recollect is also a half-sister to La Cloche, winner of the Athenia Stakes (gr. III) and dam of the current multiple stakes winner Bellavais.
Memories of Silver, the granddam of this colt, was one of the dominant performers of her era. An earner of almost $1,500,000, Memories of Silver captured six graded stakes including the Beverly D. Stakes (gr. I), the Queen Elizabeth Challenge Cup Stakes (gr. I) and the Diana Handicap (gr. II). Memories of Silver was also half-sister to two-year-old graded winner Memories, dam of the group winning Russian Revial; to stakes winner Memories of Gold; to stakes placed Childhood Memories, the granddam of multiple graded stakes winner Liberian Freighter and stakes winner Red Outlaw; and to Best of Memories, dam of stakes winners Forever Young and Best Minister.
The granddam of Memories of Silver, graded stakes winner Java Moon, is out of the great foundation mare, Golden Trail, the ancestress of more than 140 stakes winners, and 20 grade one winners. Her descendants include the outstanding international sire, Dynaformer; Champion Turf Horse Sunshine Forever; Brian’s Time, Champion Sire in Japan and Kentucky Derby (gr. I) hero Monarchos.
